We’re sure that some of you out there are already counting down the days to Halloween! Halloween may be a time for decorations, costumes, parties, and scares, but most of all, it’s about one thing – eating lots and lots of candy! Having said that, when you’re wearing braces, many of these delicious treats unfortunately need to be avoided. As your providers of braces and Invisalign in San Antonio and Pleasanton, Dr. Patrick Moore and the rest of the team at San Antonio Orthodontics would like to help you get through this holiday without causing damage to your braces while also allowing you to partake in the best part of Halloween!
Candy to Avoid
When You Have Braces
If you wear braces, you’re assuredly familiar with the fact that you’ll have to avoid two major types of food – sticky food and hard food. Unfortunately, many popular Halloween candies fit into one of these two groups, meaning that you’ll have to watch out for them this Halloween. Some of the different candies that we recommend avoiding include:
- Snickers
- Milky Way
- Peanut M&M;’s
- Baby Ruth
- Payday
- Taffy
- Bubblegum
- Anything with caramel
- Anything with nuts
Candy That’s
Safe for Braces
Thankfully, there are still plenty of types of candy that are suitable for a patient with braces. Some of these are:
- Reese’s Cups
- Kit Kat Bars
- Plain M&M;’s
- Three Musketeers
- Hershey’s Bars
- Hershey’s Kisses
- Peppermint Patties
Remember – always brush your teeth after eating any candy or other sugary treats and make sure to only consume them in moderation!
