Quick Tips for
Orthodontic Health on Summer Vacation
Summer is just around the corner, and we know people everywhere are getting excited for sunshine, longer days, and plenty of outdoor fun. Summer is also a popular time to plan vacations and trips, and if you're going on one, congratulations! If you're going on vacation and have braces, however, there are some things you'll want to keep in mind. At San Antonio Orthodontics, we strive to be a comprehensive resource for orthodontic treatment in the San Antonio, TX area – so whether you're getting metal braces in San Antonio or Invisalign, here are our top tips for orthodontic health on summer vacation.
Tips for
Going on Vacation with Braces
Heading out on a vacation this summer? Don't forget to include caring for your metal braces or orthodontic appliances in your travel plan! Follow these tips to maintain orthodontic health and keep your vacation braces-friendly this summer:
- Make a Care Kit: Before you go, put together a mobile 'braces care kit' to take with you. Include things like a toothbrush, travel size toothpaste, floss, an interdental toothbrush, elastics, dental wax, and any other things you need like rubber bands. Store it all in a bag that's small enough to keep on your person, then take it with you wherever you go.
- Watch Your Diet: We all like to splurge on food during a vacation, but when you're wearing metal braces, it's critical that you avoid certain foods. This includes anything hard, crunchy, sticky, gooey, or sugary: nuts, hard candies, corn on the cob, caramel, bagels, gummies, and anything else that may damage your braces.
- Use Your Invisalign Case: If you're traveling with Invisalign, it's critical to make good use of your case. We've had countless patients fold their aligners up in a napkin and accidentally throw them away! The best way to protect your aligners is to always keep them in the specialized case they came in. If you do lose an aligner, simply replace it with the previous aligner in the set until we can get you a replacement.
